You Don't Have to Kill Your Television to be Green:
I'll admit it: I'm an environmentalist and I watch The Bachelor. What can I say? Televisions use a lot of energy, but it's easy to cut down on waste. Make sure your TV—and DVD player and gaming devices and whatever else you have in your entertainment corner is plugged into a single power strip. That way, everything can be turned off at once when not in use.
Other ways to save energy without giving up TV all together: limit your weekly usage, turn down the contrast, and—again—unplug at night.
And, hey, recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a television for three hours. So just recycle your Monday night football beer can and we'll call it even.
