Now that the days are getting longer, you might be noticing the dirt, hair and other lovely things our pets like to bring inside our homes. Spring cleaning may already be in order, but if you have a messy pet in your household, you might have to take some other things into consideration when sprucing up your home for spring.
Clean Those Toys - Pet toys can accumulate lots of slobber, dirt and hair. Who wants that lying around their home, on their bed or couch? No one! Take all of the soft, plush toys and tennis balls and throw them in the washer with hot water and a pet-safe detergent. Take the same detergent and put it in a sink full of hot water and soak and wipe off their rubber toys. Works like a charm!
Give Your Carpet More Than A Once Over - Winter months mean tracking mud, water and extra dirt onto your carpet. Although a good vacuuming will get most of the dirt and hair out, it's a good idea to clean up any spots with a strong carpet cleaner and then use a deodorizer to get rid of any yucky smells that might be lurking in the carpet.
Time to Clean Those Bed Pets - Our pets have beds just like we do...they could have more than one lying around the house! It's important to throw their bedding in the wash just like you do yours. Use the same pet-friendly detergent you used for their toys and their beds will be good as new with no pesky germs left behind.
Hard Floors Need Extra Attention Too - You can quickly sweep and wipe down your hard wood floors but they might need some extra attention during this time of year. Grab a cleaning rag or mop and get into all of the hard-to-reach spots. They will sparkling and clean from any Fido leftovers!
Clean Off Beds and Furniture - Pet hair is horrible to get rid of and will easily come back to haunt you sometimes in seconds after cleaning. It's a good time to get your upholstered furniture professionally cleaned or invest in a good pet fur remover and take some extra time to get all the fur that hiding in the nooks and crannies. We know it's a pain but you will feel so much better when it's done! Another good thing to do is take your comforter and bedding off and give it a good wash. You never know what your pet could have been chewing on your bedspread!
Bowls and Mats - If you don't have a mat for your pet's food bowls, it might be time to invest in one. They save so much time when cleaning up spilled food and water. Pet bowls have a tendency to get knocked over...pets don't exactly have manners when it comes to eating! If you haven't in a while, throw the bowls in the dishwasher and give your pet's feeding mat a good scrub in the sink.
Happy cleaning!
