In 1964, the Academy of Country Music was founded to support, promote and enhance the advancement of country music throughout the world. Every year since 1965, the Academy of Country Music Awards have honored the industry's most notable talent. In 1968 the ACM adopted its distinctive hat trophy, and in 1972 the awards show was broadcast for the first time on national television. Since then, the gala ACM Awards broadcast has been among the most popular programs in its time slot.

THE 38TH ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS is produced by dick clark productions. Dick Clark and Al Schwartz are executive producers; R.A. Clark and Barry Adelman, producers; Ron Weed, co-producer; Fran Boyd, ACM talent producer.

HOST REBA McENTIRE
With more than 50 million records sold and ten ACM Awards to her name, Reba McEntire reigns as the most successful female artist in the country music genre. This year, her 27th CD and third greatest hits package, "Greatest Hits III--I'm a Survivor," entered the country charts at number one. McEntire's first foray into series television this year resulted in the successful comedy series "Reba." In early 2001, she stormed Broadway as the star of Irving Berlin's "Annie Get Your Gun." McEntire's critically acclaimed performance received rave reviews and numerous theater awards. A CBS television movie version of the play is currently in development.

PERFORMERS AND PRESENTERS
Wynonna, Diamond Rio, LeAnn Rimes, Terri Clark, Alabama, Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Shania Twain, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Martina McBride, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Darryl Worley and Montgomery Gentry are among the artists set to perform. The Dixie Chicks will also perform via satellite from their hometown Austin, Texas concert.

Presenters include Kellie Coffey, Jennifer Hanson, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Joe Nichols, Blake Shelton, Darryl Worley, Emerson Drive, Pinmonkey, Lee Ann Womack, Wayne Newton, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Penn & Teller, Trick Pony, Kerri Turner, Mark Miller, Eric Close and Phil Vassar.
