Pop art icon Peter Max has created the official artwork and logo for the 75th Anniversary celebration of the CBS Television Network. Since the late 1960s, Max's work has been an artistic symbol of American pop culture. His images form a scrapbook illustrating 40 years of Americana. Max's imagination and vision can be found in more than 100 museums and galleries throughout the world--and on a variety of canvases, including the Berlin Wall and a Boeing 777 jumbo jet currently in use by Continental Airlines. Max has painted portraits of numerous world leaders, including the last six U.S. Presidents, the Dalai Lama and Mikhail Gorbachev. He has also been designated Official Artist of numerous international events, including six Grammy Award broadcasts, three World Fairs and six Super Bowls.
Max himself has some unique ties to CBS. He appeared as a guest on "The Ed Sullivan Show" on June 22, 1969--and collaborated on the May 21, 1970 CBS special "The 5th Dimension Special: An Odyssey in the Cosmic Universe of Peter Max." The special starred the singing group The 5th Dimension, which performed their past hits and new songs all set against the colorful, imaginative background of Max's "cosmic universe." Well known artists from the time, including Glen Campbell, comedian Arte Johnson, Joey Heatherton and Flip Wilson, guest-starred.
