Hannah Zackson, wife of director Andy Wolk, paid a visit to the set of FINDING JOHN CHRISTMAS to photograph some behind-the-scenes action. On this day, Andy was shooting a difficult key sequence about the rescue of children from a burning school building.

Andy Wolk and a still photographer shoot the heroic news photo that appears in a newspaper in the movie. This is being done before the filming of the fire, because the newspaper has to be created and used in the filming of a prior scene. The background of a raging fire will be digitally added to this image of the fireman.

Andy Wolk (left) tests the fireball that will be used in the scene. A special effects specialist watches from the second story window.

In the scene, firemen rescue children from the burning school building.

The fireball explodes, engulfing the actors, as this last child is saved.

For safety reasons, in rehearsals and close-ups, the actors carry a dummy instead of a real child. Actor William "Rusty" Russ holds the dummy while the crew cools down the building.

The dummy is out of the camera's range when the crew shoots a close-up of the actor.

William Russ races back into the burning building. Andy yells, "Cut!", but Rusty is so in the moment, he keeps going, his gas mask off, his helmet barely on his head.

Exhausted from heat and smoke, Andy (seated) and Rusty get away from the fire between shots.

Puddles of water reflect the flames as a fireman rushes back inside. There is water everywhere. By the end of the day, everyone is soaked.

The day after the fire, Hannah Zackson gets away from all the heat and relaxes on a Nova Scotia beach.
