THE OPERETTA
Lucy and Ethel decide to write an operetta for the annual performance of the Wednesday Afternoon Fine Arts League. To save money, they plan to rent the costumes and scenery with a post-dated check. Lucy plays Camille, the queen of the gypsies; Ethel is Lily, a young village girl; Fred is inn-owner Friar Quinn; Ricky is "good Prince Lancelot." In the middle of the performance, the men from the rental company interrupt the action to reclaim the sets and costumes. Classic Scene: the operetta and the musical numbers, performed by the group of amateurs.
JOB SWITCHING
A dispute about domestic finances finds Lucy and Ethel switching roles with Ricky and Fred. Lucy and Ethel get jobs at a candy factory, while Ricky and Fred stay home to do housework, cooking and other domestic chores. Classic Scenes: Lucy and Ethel hard at work at Kramer's Kandy Kitchen, trying to dip chocolates, then wrap them as they pass along the conveyor belt; Ricky and Fred almost destroy the kitchen when they try to make chicken with rice for dinner.
LUCY IS ENCIENTE
Lucy is feeling rundown, goes to the doctor, and learns she is finally pregnant after 11 years of marriage to Ricky. Wanting to tell Ricky, Lucy ultimately finds herself at the Tropicana, slipping a note to the headwaiter to ensure that Ricky sings a "special song" to her. Classic scene: Ricky discovers Lucy's pregnancy as he sings "We're Having A Baby" to Lucy, in a touching and sentimental moment.
