Michele Lee was nominated for an Emmy Award as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Karen MacKenzie in "Knots Landing." She appeared in all 344 episodes, setting the American television record for the greatest number of consecutive appearances by a leading actress in an hour-long primetime dramatic series. Lee's career began in the theater when she was discovered by David Merrick and brought to New York in the musical "Vintage '60." At the age of 18, she starred in "Bravo Giovanni," which led to her breakout role as Rosemary in the original production of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," opposite Robert Morse. She recreated the role in the film version of the play. In 1974, she appeared in the Broadway production of Michael Bennett's musical "Seesaw," for which she was nominated for a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Award for Best Actress. She also received a Tony nomination for "The Tale of the Allergist's Wife" in 2002. Lee was the first woman to write, produce, direct and star in a television movie, "Color Me Perfect," for which she won a Christopher Award. She also produced and starred in the Emmy-nominated television movie "Big Dreams and Broken Hearts: The Dottie West Story" and "When No One Would Listen," both on CBS, and "Scandalous Me: The Jacqueline Susann Story." Her other television movie credits include "Dark Victory," "Bud and Lou" and Neil Simon's "Broadway Bound." Her feature film credits include the Disney classic "The Love Bug" and "Along Came Polly." Michele Lee was born in Los Angeles and divides her time between Los Angeles and New York. Her birth date is June 24. |
