Joan Van Ark played Valene Ewing for a combination of 15 seasons in "Knots Landing" and "Dallas." She was recently seen in the role of Gloria Fisher in the daytime drama "The Young and the Restless," also on CBS. Van Ark began her career in the theater in a production of "The Miser," with Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy, at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. She also appeared in a production of "Death of a Salesman." Her extensive theatrical credits include Broadway productions of "Barefoot in the Park," "The School for Wives," for which she earned a Tony Award nomination, and "The Rules of the Game," for which she won a Theater World Award. Her Off-Broadway credits include "Love Letters" and "Three Tall Women." Her Los Angeles theater credits include "Cyrano de Bergerac," "Ring Around the Moon," "Chemin de Fer," "Heartbreak House" and "As You Like It," for which she won a Los Angeles Drama Critics Award. Van Ark's other television credits include the series "Santo Bugito," on CBS, "Spider Woman," "Temperatures Rising" and "We've Got Each Other," as well as "The Nanny," "Touched by an Angel" and "Cybill," all on CBS. Her feature film credits include "Net Games" and "The Icemaker." Joan Van Ark was born in New York and lives in Los Angeles. Her birth date is June 16. |
