Each year, the Latin Grammy Awards ceremony assembles members of the Spanish and Portuguese speaking communities to recognize outstanding creative and technical achievements from a range of fields in Latin recording arts and sciences. This year's ceremony will take place at the American Airlines Arena in Miami on September 3, 2003.
The Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (the Latin Recording Academy) was established in 1997 as an international association of creative and technical recording professionals dedicated to improving the quality of life and culture for those involved in the Latin music industry. The Latin Recording Academy provides networking, educational and cultural programs, and advocacy for issues affecting Latino music arts and culture. In addition, it has pledged to preserve hundreds of regional Latin music forms worldwide.
The Latin Recording Academy established the Latin Grammy Awards to recognize artistic and technical achievement. As with the Grammy Awards, the Latin Grammy winners are chosen by the votes of their peers, who are all Academy members; their decisions are not based on chart positions or sales figures.
