LIVING WITH THE DEAD is inspired by the life and work of famed medium James Van Praagh, author of The New York Times best-selling books Talking to Heaven and Reaching to Heaven.

In this mini-series, we see that James (Ted Danson) has been haunted by psychic visitations from the time he was a child and has found them deeply disturbing. Although encouraged by his mother, Regina (Diane Ladd), when she was alive and after she dies, and a good friend, Midge (Queen Latifah), James has struggled for years with his gift, which at first seemed to be more of a curse than a blessing. After many incidents in which his revelations have made him an outcast among his peers, teachers and family, he finally learns to accept and trust his ability and put it to valuable use.

Today, Van Praagh's ability to communicate with the world beyond and his inspiring message of comfort and hope have touched a chord in people everywhere, and he has become a healing force for millions of readers. His gifts of clairvoyance, the ability to "see clearly," and clairsentience, the ability to have "clear feeling," which result from "feeling the emotions and personalities of the deceased," have made him an internationally recognized and respected spiritual medium.
