WJM's Chuckles the Clown, while dressed as a peanut, is "shelled" by a rogue elephant. Mary is appalled by the bad taste of her coworkers, who joke about Chuckles's untimely death. Mary Moment3 THE LARS AFFAIR
Cloris Leachman was awarded the Emmy for this episode, which also marks Betty White's first appearance as Sue Ann Nivens, WJM's "Happy Homemaker." Phyllis suspects that her husband Lars is having an affair with Sue Ann. With Mary's reluctant help, Phyllis confronts Sue Ann about it. In this Mary Moment, Phyllis attacks Sue Ann's soufflé in a fit of anger. Originally aired: 9/15/73
Mary Moment4 THE GEORGETTE STORY
Mary is tired of seeing Ted taking Georgette for granted, so she and Rhoda give Georgette a pep talk. Soon Ted finds himself confronted by a more "modern" Georgette. She breaks up with Ted, who begs her to take him back and finally admits he loves her. In this Mary Moment, Ted is finally able to say "I love you" to Georgette. Originally aired: 1/20/73
Mary Moment5 LOU'S FIRST DATE
It's the annual Broadcasters' Dinner, and Mr. Grant doesn't have a date. He tells Mary to get him one. Through an innocent mix-up, Mary accidentally fixes Mr. Grant up with an 80-year-old lady. When he meets his blind date in this Mary Moment, Mr. Grant is stunned, to say the least. Originally aired 11/3/73
Mary Moment6 SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MOTHER
Rhoda's meddling mother, Ida, comes to visit, but Rhoda refuses to see her. When Mary invites Ida to stay at her place, Ida insists upon paying her, a scene excerpted in this Mary Moment. Eventually, Mary brings the two together. Ida finally meets up with Rhoda on her way to the airport. Originally aired: 10/24/70
Mary Moment7 THE LAST SHOW
In the final episode, WJM is sold. To everyone's surprise, the new owner fires everyone but Ted. The gang says goodbye with a group hug, captured in this Mary Moment. Mary thanks them all for being her "family." After regaining their composure, the group leaves the newsroom for the last time while singing "It's a long way to Tipperary."
