Robin Wright Penn and Kevin Costner star in this theatrical romance, which was adapted from the Nicholas Sparks novel. Theresa Osborne is a divorced mother and researcher at the Chicago Tribune who stumbles upon a tragic love letter in a bottle. The note addressed to "Catherine" touches Theresa deeply, and she sets out to track down who penned the letter. Theresa's search leads her to the outer banks of North Carolina and to Garret Blake, a widower who hand-crafts beautiful vessels. Garret takes Theresa for a sail on his boat and soon the two develop a relationship - but can Garret let go of the love he had for his deceased wife?
