Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Glenne Headly, Sam Robards, Brett Cullen and Will Rothhaar will star in a live television presentation of ON GOLDEN POND, to be broadcast Sunday, April 29 (9:00-11:00 PM, live ET; delayed PT) on CBS.
This State Farm Showcase presentation of ON GOLDEN POND teams Plummer and Andrews for the first time since they starred together in the 1965 Academy Award-winning film The Sound of Music.
The production also reunites the play's author, Ernest Thompson, who adapted it for the live broadcast and will serve as director, with Craig Anderson, who produced and directed the original play on Broadway (1979) and Off Broadway (1978), as executive producer.
This tender love story follows a married couple who return to their summer home and reevaluate their dreams, relationships and mortality throughout their stay. As portrayed by Andrews and Plummer, Ethel and Norman Thayer, the senior couple in this production, are not frail old people. Rather, they are more like seniors are today: sexy, vibrant, active and vital. When the play premiered, both Anderson and Thompson were in their twenties, and saw the lead characters as old people. Now, both men are in their fifties, and Ethel and Norman seem more like people they can relate to as friends.
This live broadcast event marks the first annual State Farm Showcase presentation on CBS.
