ASK CHRISTINE LAHTI: FAN Q&A

Traci Slopek from Minneapolis, MN asks: My TiVo missed the end of the movie because of the football games earlier in the day. How did the movie end? I saw up until the kitchen scene where the husband was talking about making a mistake and making everyone upset with him.
CHRISTINE LAHTI: So many people missed the end of the movie because of the delay. In the kitchen scene, after Nathan says he made a huge mistake and he hurt everyone, Rose doesn't take him back. In fact, she tells him he can have the house because she's moving on. The next day, her former boss Simon calls to offer Rose her old job back. She turns him down, saying that she has better offers and she can "no longer work for such a sexist, ageist, scum-sucking pig." A few days later, Rose and her friend Madeleine are leaving Rose's house with luggage--they're taking a trip to Paris. A miserable Mindy shows up. She's pregnant with twin boys and doesn't want to live in Rose's house. "Tough," says Rose. "You made my bed. Now lie in it." While in Europe, Rose decides to visit Hal at his olive farm in Italy. "Who knows where that kiss could lead?" she says in her voice over, as we see them walking away arm-in-arm. "The world is open to me in a way I never expected. I've learned that out of pain and humiliation, and short of double homicide, the best revenge is a life well lived."

Christina Jefferson from St. Petersburg, FL asks: The parts of the movie I was able to see were great, but due to the hurricane in our area I missed some of the best parts and the very end. Can you please tell me when it will be on TV again?
CHRISTINE LAHTI: Most likely, CBS will repeat the movie next season.

Barbara Vaughn from Chattanooga, TN asks: Who designed those wonderful tops you wore in the movie? Thanks for being the perfect Rose. I read the book some time ago and now I couldn't imagine her looking any differently.
CHRISTINE LAHTI: Thank you! Ann Major, the costume designer, did a great job. The boat-neck T-shirts were designed by James Perse. You can get them at Bloomingdale's or Saks Fifth Avenue.

Frances Richey from Los Alamos, NM asks: Who was the actor who played the editor that fired and tried to hire? He's so familiar, but I can't place him.
CHRISTINE LAHTI: Anthony Heald played my boss "Simon." You've probably seen him in one of his many guest appearances on TV series. Most recently he was on Boston Public.

Donna from Boise, ID asks: I identified so strongly with Rose that I'd like to read more about her story. Is this movie based on a book?
CHRISTINE LAHTI: Yes, it's based on the bestselling novel Revenge of the Middle-aged Woman by Elizabeth Buchan.

Jean from Decatur, Indiana asks: I missed the credits! Who played your mother? She looks familiar and I loved her spunk! Will your movie eventually be out on video? I really enjoyed it! Thank you!
CHRISTINE LAHTI: Cynthia Harris plays my mother in the movie. Cynthia, the director Sheldon Larry and I all worked together once before on An American Daughter, the movie version of Wendy Wasserstein's play. You may also remember Cynthia as Paul Reiser's mother in Mad About You.

Maria from Santa Rosa asks: I just want to say that I watched the movie last night and LOVED IT. I want to get a copy of it and see it again. You made a great point which could serve a wonderful example for people in the same situation. Wonderful job acting, I am a huge fan now! Thanks.
CHRISTINE LAHTI: Thanks so much! There aren't any plans yet to release the movie on DVD or VHS, but you can enter the sweepstakes on this website for a chance to win a DVD of the film, along with my director's chair from the set. Just enter by September 30, 2004.

Sharon, New Martinsville, West Virginia asks: Being a middle-aged woman myself, I've found that living and loving well really are our best revenge. What say you?
CHRISTINE LAHTI: You must have seen the movie already! That is exactly the point we are trying to make.

Marty from Salinas, CA asks: Will there be some good laughs or will it just be spiteful revenge?
CHRISTINE LAHTI: The movie is very funny. Even though my character goes through a traumatic experience, she has a great sense of humor about it. You'll be entertained.

Warner Yuen from Mountain View asks: My wife and I both loved you in "Chicago Hope." Can't wait to see the movie. Was it shot in High Definition?
CHRISTINE LAHTI: No, the movie was shot in Super 16, but it will be broadcast in high definition. So if you have a hi-def TV, you can see it that way.

Lwazi Nkiwane from London, England asks: This movie is based on the novel by which English novelist?
CHRISTINE LAHTI: Yes, the film is based on Revenge of the Middle-aged Woman by Elizabeth Buchan. We have Americanized it, so it takes place in Los Angeles rather than London. And the character of "Hal Thorne" (played by Bryan Brown) is Australian rather than American.
