Georg Bell was born in 1898, the son of a wealthy businessman. Bell served as Captain Ernst Röhm's press secretary after World War I. This position, however, was a front for Bell to solicit the funds necessary for Röhm to increase his relevance and possibly undermine Hitler's position and power in the Nazi Party. When Röhm was unable to achieve the timeline set forth by the British oil investors Bell had found, the Captain turned on him. It is widely speculated that it was Bell who publicly exposed Röhm's plan for a political uprising and fed the anti-Nazi press information about dissent in Hitler's ranks. When he deduced who the culprit was, Hitler ordered Bell executed. |
