Dr. Eduard Bloch, a Jew, was the Hitler family's physician. In 1907, he discovered a tumor in Hitler's mother's breast, which was operated on four days afterwards with Dr. Bloch in attendance at the hospital of the Bamherzigen Nuns in Linz, Austria. A lengthy treatment followed, but Klara died later that same year. After the integration of Austria into Hitler's Reich, life for Jews became increasingly difficult. However, Dr. Bloch was apparently allowed to remain in his house until the formalities of his emigration were finalized. In 1940, Dr. Bloch, along with his wife, emigrated to the United States. However, he never practiced medicine in the U.S. Bloch died in 1945 in Bronx, New York. |
