Ever since it was announced that ShAmy would be taking things to the next level, fans have been waiting with baited breath for the couple's big night.

That night happened during the episode entitled "The Opening Night Excitation," which, appropriately enough, also coincided with the premiere of the highly anticipated Star Wars sequel, The Force Awakens

Though initially torn, Sheldon decided to opt out of seeing the movie with Leonard, Howard, and Raj; instead, he chose to celebrate Amy's birthday and give her the ultimate gift.

We were lucky enough to catch up with Mayim Bialik and ask her about what it was like to film such an intimate moment and where she thinks ShAmy is heading. Read on for all the juicy details of Sheldon and Amy's magic moment.

What was your reaction when you first read the script?
Mayim Bialik:
I was honestly shocked! We had just gotten back together, and Jim and I had both settled into a very comfortable place with Amy and Sheldon having a non-sexual relationship. I guess the writers disagreed!

How did the scene measure up to how you imagined it would be when Amy and Sheldon finally did it?
It was so much more tender and sweet and lovely than I could have imagined, which is why I'm not a writer. I could not have imagined making it so perfect for these characters as our writers did.

What role did the breakup play in getting the characters to this moment?
I don't think it's related at all, honestly. This might have happened last year or next year. I don't feel like it was about, "We got back together. Let's have sex," because that's not how Sheldon's brain works. "Star Wars premiere. Amy's birthday. Special thing. Coitus." That's how his brain works!

What was it like filming the scene? How did the audience react?
It's not like we have an actual scene that shows us having sex! There is a bed scene before and then there is a bed scene after. Both are important and funny and touching in different ways. I don't think Jim and I are the kind of actors who typically expect to be looking naked in a bed scene, so I guess it took some getting used to for us.

Now that Amy and Sheldon have shared such an intimate and important moment, what would you like to see next for the couple?
I honestly will be happy to go back to all of the kinds of things we did before the breakup—funny scenes, touching scenes, scenes with the whole gang. I don't think that every episode will be about a monumental relationship move, and I'm grateful for that. Our show tends to be about the day-to-day lives of these unusual people rather than monumental events in their relationships. And we like it that way!
