The holidays are a time for doling out presents, but it's easy to get stumped on what to buy for our loved ones. For a little guidance, we turned to Sheldon, Amy, Howard, Bernadette, Raj, Penny, and Leonard to see the best gifts they've given—and received—over the years.

From traditional tokens, like jewelry and cookies, to one-of-a-kind surprises, like a snowflake, this is the ultimate gift suggestion guide, courtesy of The Big Bang Theory.

The gift of song

The gift of song

When Bernadette got quarantined after being exposed to a virus, Howard showed off his romantic side by writing and performing a song on the one-year anniversary of their first date on "The Romance Resonance" (Season 7, Episode 6).

Sheldon usually doesn't understand or approve of gift giving, but he couldn't help but be overwhelmed when Penny gave him a napkin signed by his hero, Leonard Nimoy, on "The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis" (Season 2, Episode 11).
A snuggly fleece blanket

To make sure Leonard stayed warm while on his three-month expedition to the North Pole, Penny gave him a super-warm body blanket on "The Monopolar Expedition" (Season 2, Episode 23).
A snowflake

As a way to say thanks to Penny's sweet blanket bequest, Leonard brought her a special little something from the Arctic on "The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation" (Season 3, Episode 1).

"It's a snowflake from the North Pole," Leonard told Penny. "It'll last forever; I preserved it with a one-percent solution of polyvinal acedal resin." How romantic!
An adorable puppy

Howard and Bernadette surprised Raj with a ridiculously cute Yorkshire Terrier puppy in an attempt to cheer him up and get him to forget about his failed relationship with Lakshmi on "The Transporter Malfunction" (Season 5, Episode 20).
A beautiful necklace

A beautiful necklace

Right before their wedding and before Howard headed off into space, the aerospace engineer gave Bernadette a star-shaped pendant necklace on "The Launch Acceleration" (Season 5, Episode 23).

However, she'd have to give it back so he could take it with him to the International Space Station. Then, upon his return, he'd regift the bauble, which would posses an even greater meaning because the star would've come directly from space.

Astronomy never sounded so sweet.
A framed picture of yourself

Though they agreed not to exchange gifts, Sheldon gave Amy a picture of himself sitting on Santa’s lap.

As if that weren't enough, the photo was encased in a talking frame that melted her heart on "The Clean Room Infiltration" (Season 8, Episode 11).
Homemade cookies

Homemade cookies

As we mentioned, Amy and Sheldon agreed to skip presents on Christmas, but neither could stick to the pact. Amy surprised Sheldon with cookies she baked using his Memaw's recipe in "The Clean Room Infiltration" (Season 8, Episode 11).
An impromptu getaway

An impromptu getaway

Much to their surprise, Penny and Leonard received an amazing wedding gift—plane tickets and hotel reservations for a fun weekend in San Francisco—from Sheldon on "The Separation Oscillation" (Season 9, Episode 2).

There was one caveat: Sheldon was coming with them, of course.
The start of something new

The start of something new

When Leonard learned the truth in "The Veracity Elasticity" (Episode 7, Season 10) that Penny didn't like their bedroom filled with his collectibles, he gave Penny her own action figure... aaaaand the freedom to redecorate the bedroom any way she wanted.

We hope Leonard doesn't have a problem with pink.
An oh-so personal flag

An oh-so personal flag

In "The Property Division Collision" (Episode 10, Season 10), former roommates Sheldon and Leonard got into—and, luckily, resolved—an intense fight over their shared possessions when they both decided to each cohabitate with their other halves.

As a sign of good will after the argument, Sheldon offered Leonard the apartment flag, and the experimental physicist graciously accepted. After all, Leonard had already rubbed his genitals all over it, so it only made sense he took ownership of the less-than-pristine pennant.
The title of godfather

The title of godfather

Sometimes the best gifts are the ones that don't cost a dime.

For example, in The Birthday Synchronicity" (Episode 11, Season 10), moments after Howard and Bernadette welcomed their little girl, Halley, into the world, the aerospace engineer asked his trusty BFF Raj to be the baby's godfather.

Now that's one priceless present.
