5. The Coup d'Etat

5. The Coup d'Etat

In Season 7 of Big Brother, we learned about the Coup d'Etat, which was a tool that gave one Houseguest the power to knock the Head of Household's elimination nominees off the block, back to safety, and replace them with nominees of their own. For example, in Season 11, Jeff Schroeder used the Coup d'Etat to nominate power players Jessie Godderz and Natalie Martinez, which ultimately resulted in Jessie's eviction.

Two Heads of Household? That's insanity! No, that's a Big Brother twist!

First introduced in Season 16, the Battle of the Block allowed two Heads of Household to nominate two Houseguests for eviction. Then, each nominee would compete for safety. But wait! There's more. The losing team was forced to compete for the Power of Veto and, in turn, the HoH who nominated said Houseguest would be stripped of his—or her—power.

Got all that?

Season 9 of Big Brother kicked off with a very romantic twist when Houseguests were matched with their "soulmates."

Not only would they sleep in the same bed and compete together, the couples would also be eliminated together. A few showmances sparked, a few relationships were kept secret, and the entire house seemed relieved when the twist wrapped up in the third week.

Everybody loves a twin twist! Seen for the first time in Season 5, it's one of the show's most fun twists. If the twins can keep their secret safe—or rely on alliances to keep them in the game, like Julia and Liz managed to do in Season 17—until week five, both twins are able to enter the house and play the game as individuals.
