The 42nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors is going to be packed with stars and will leave audiences glowing when it airs on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 8/7c on CBS and CBS All Access.

With moving tributes and inspired collaborations, legendary artists will salute their peers during a special night of television that will honor Earth, Wind & Fire; Sally Field; Linda Ronstadt; Sesame Street; and Michael Tilson Thomas.

What is the Kennedy Center Honors?

Now in its 42nd year, the Kennedy Center Honors have become one of America's highest achievements for any performer. The event, held in Washington, D.C., is a celebration that recognizes the Honorees for a lifetime of cultural contributions.

The Honors are selected by the Center's board, which ensures a balance across the arts: dance, music, theater, opera, motion pictures, and television. Their primary criterion? Excellence.

Who are the 2019 Kennedy Center Honorees?

The 2019 Kennedy Center honorees include R&B collective Earth, Wind & Fire, actress Sally Field, singer Linda Ronstadt, children's television program Sesame Street, and musical visionary Michael Tilson Thomas.

Sesame Street is the first television program selected as an honoree. Earth, Wind & Fire are being recognized as a musical group, with members Philip Bailey, Verdine White, and Ralph Johnson accepting on the band’s behalf.
