Allow us to introduce you to the Short family, a crazy clan who's in a league of their own, and the focus of CBS's new fall comedy, Life In Pieces.

Headed up by parents John and Joan—played by James Brolin and Dianne Wiest, respectively—Life In Pieces follows the intertwined lives of three generations, and each episode will be told in four short stories, one for each branch of the Short brood.

Each vingnette will tackle the same complexities of everyday life that we all face. We're talking first-time parenthood, awkward living situations, and aging gracefully.

And that's just in the premiere episode!

Like we mentioned earlier, first-time parenthood is definitely the kind of life change that rocks your world to the core, and we get to see the youngest Short sibling go through it in the show's first episode.

Greg Short (Colin Hanks) has just witnessed his wife, Jen (Zoe Lister-Jones), give birth and is still recovering from the mildly traumatizing miracle of life. When the couple returns back home from the hospital, newborn in tow, Jen goes against the doctor's orders to be patient with the healing process and, well, see for yourself.

Life In Pieces offers a new look at the atypical American family, one piece at a time.

Some assembly required.

Watch the premiere of Life In Pieces on Monday, Sept. 21 at 8:30/7:30c, which follows The Big Bang Theory.
