Lucas was born in Decatur, Alabama, but spent the majority of his childhood in a town called Speake. And, just like Christopher LaSalle, Lucas loves to flaunt his 'Bama pride.

Lucas credits much of his growth to his father’s guidance. As the child of hard-working parents—his mother is an office worker and his father works at a museum—Lucas learned the value of diligence at a young age. While he says his father is his primary role model, he also praised his father-in-law’s lifestyle and example.

When he wasn’t behind the camera, Lucas could be found throwing around the pigskin for the Speake Bobcats.

After high school, Lucas traded in his football for golf clubs and started to hit the fairway. He currently competes around the country, and has said he sometimes dreams of making it to the professional level. He must be great, too, since he’s shown off his skills in film. Lucas married Maggie O’Brien in 2010. As a lawyer, Maggie now handles all of Lucas’s contract negotiations. The couple have two children together: a daughter, Sophie Jo, and a son, Augusta “Gus” York.

You can take the man out of 'Bama, but good luck taking the 'Bama out of the man. Lucas’s persona is so wrapped up in his accent, it’s hard to imagine him speaking without it. Luckily for us, we probably won’t ever have to.

Lucas is proud of his country roots and has said that he can’t handle too much time in a big city. We suppose it’s a little harder to find places to fish in a sea of skyscrapers.

Unlike LaSalle, Lucas never put on the Big Al costume for University of Alabama football games—but that doesn’t mean he’s not committed to the team. Lucas has never been shy about tweeting his Roll Tide pride. Fun fact: His wife is a big University of Missouri fan, and the two love to joke about their different allegiances.

Lucas received his first movie role in 1994, when he was just 11 years old. With so many years in the field, it’s surprising to learn he’s never had any formal acting training. We guess some people really are just born with it!
