10 Reasons We Wish Leon Vance Was Our Boss

Let's celebrate NCIS Director Leon Vance!

As Director of NCIS, Leon Vance is responsible for overseeing all NCIS branches, both domestically and internationally. While he's incredibly busy with all of that responsibility, he somehow manages to be one of the world's greatest bosses.

Let's take a little time to celebrate all Vance does for our favorite NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and NCIS: New Orleans teams!

1. He remembers more than your name.

We all know the kind of boss who sees you as just another employee instead of an actual person. Vance isn't that boss. More than just saying "hello" to his team in the hallway, Vance takes note of their hobbies and interests.

2. He's excellent at managing stress.

Let's face it: Work is stressful. Wouldn't you prefer a boss who takes out his frustrations in the ring rather than in the office?

3. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty.

Don't you hate when someone barks orders from the top but is never willing to jump in and help? Well, Vance is not that boss. This director is ready to roll up his sleeves and get into the field to help his team solve the toughest cases.

4. He fully understands the importance of his job.

Vance didn't choose his career based on a salary; he chose it because he genuinely wanted to help people. Nothing exemplified this more than how he handled himself after his wife was killed in a shooting. He was devastated and angry, but he came back to work with more passion and devotion than ever before.

5. He has the best interests of his employees at heart.

While his decisions may not always seem fair—ahem, reassigning Hetty Lange from the NCIS: Los Angeles office—Leon Vance has his reasons. Sure, the LA team was angry, but when they learned Vance was simply protecting Hetty from a North Korean assassin, they were quick to forgive.

6. He puts family first.

Vance is a tough boss when he needs to be, but he understands that people have lives outside of the work place—like picking the kids up from school and driving them to practice. After all, he's a father, himself!

7. He's there when you need him most.

Some bosses send their condolences in a card when an employee's family member passes away. There's nothing wrong with that. Vance takes the extra step and accompanies his employees to the funeral to show his support.

8. He's an excellent listener.

Doesn't it feel like some bosses just don't pay attention when you vocalize a comment or concern? The great thing about Vance is that not only does he listen to what you have to say, he also respects it.

9. He'll stop at nothing to to get justice—especially for his employees.

Having someone on your side is always a great feeling. And, having someone who will send his top agents to track down the person who harmed you (in this case, terrorist), is an honor.

10. He knows when to put his foot down.

Compromise is an admirable quality, but it's hard to respect a total pushover. Vance proves that you can be stern and flexible while maintaining authority.
