It was a short run for Brawn Tribe castaway Darnell Hamilton, who took the undesirable title of the first eliminated competitor of Survivor: Kaoh Rong. Regardless of getting snuffed, one thing remains unwavering: this postal worker's super-positive outlook on the game and experience as a whole.

Darnell: "Yes, I was very surprised. Of course, I knew I was on the chopping block, but my gut told me I wasn’t going."

2. Do you think losing your goggles was a big reason why you were sent home?

Darnell: "It was multiple reasons. One reason was [clearly] the goggles, [but] Jason’s thought was more like, 'Let’s get rid of this threat while I can,' and keep the less-threatening person around."

3. Do you think your tribe made too big of a deal about you doing your "business" in the ocean?

Darnell: "Me using the bathroom was more about me being alone. See, on Survivor, you never want to be caught alone or going off alone. I was telling my tribe that I was going off to use the bathroom and I figured by announcing [it], they would know I wouldn’t be out looking for an Idol. So, that was the reason for all the attention."

4. What surprised you the most about your Survivor experience?

Darnell: "The heat and how difficult everything on Survivor is. Everything is 100-percent real. The heat, the elements—everything from the bug bites from being dehydrated—that’s all real. As a fan, you really don’t get to see all that but, once you’re out there, it’s all 100-percent real and it’s tough."

5. How did it feel to be cast on Survivor?

Darnell: "It was a surreal moment. It was my first time applying, [so when I found out] I just couldn’t believe it. I came a long way from growing up and screwing up and all that. So, to then have this kind of opportunity, I just couldn't believe it. It was just exciting for me."
6. What will you walk away with from your Survivor experience?

6. What will you walk away with from your Survivor experience?

Darnell: "For me, it was my first time being out of the country and seeing the world. Also, the great friends that I met while I was out here—that’s something I will always keep."
7. What advice do you have for future castaways?

7. What advice do you have for future castaways?

Darnell:  "I would say don’t overplay and overthink the situation. People try and read books and do all these things you don’t necessarily need to do before the show. A lot of it just comes down to adapting to your situation. Just be prepared, expect the unexpected, and be yourself. Don’t try to emulate anybody. Be you."
