Heroes and Big Little Lies star Santiago Cabrera came on The Talk this week to chat about his latest show, Salvation, which premieres on Wednesday, July 12 at 9/8c on CBS and CBS All Access.

On the new show, Santiago plays Darius Tanz, a wealthy tech mogul who takes on the near-impossible task of stopping a planet-killing asteroid poised to hit Earth. With only six months to save humanity, he recruits a brilliant MIT student, Liam Cole (Charlie Rowe), to help him.

"The really interesting thing about this show is that you've got this [asteroid] as a plot device—it's a real political thriller—but, underneath, the characters really come to light," the actor explained.

"It brings up that question of, when you're put up against a threat like that, as human beings, do we come together and stop it, or do we actually destroy ourselves in the process? So, it's very relevant and very smart."

When asked what he would do in a life-threatening scenario like the one on Salvation, Santiago replied, "I'm in between. Would [I] just go to the Bahamas and kick [my] feet up... or just stay at home and spend as much time with [my] loved ones as [I could]?"

Santiago said the latter was probably more likely for him, but, "If [I] knew there was a solution, I'd fight for that solution."
