Valerie Bertinelli on Marriage in Her 50's and 'couples therapy'
While discussing Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp's recent engagement and an entertainment insider saying, "They are old enough to know what they want," guest co-host Valerie Bertinelli reflects on her own marriages. "I got married the first time [to Eddie Van Halen] when I was 20, I don't recommend that. Although, we spent 20 years together. And my second and last time, I got married was when I was 50, so I think I do know more at 50. I think you're more willing to ask for help. Like my husband, Tom, and I go to couples therapy because there's things that happen no matter [what]. There's another person in your house, you're gonna come up with struggles." Sara Gilbert asks, "When you were 50, what did you realize you needed in a relationship?" Bertinelli shares, "Because I was so independent, I realized that I didn't need to grasp onto him to feel better about myself. I was my own person and he just enhanced my life."
