Nancy Travis on An Abrupt Film Firing, Ageism in Hollywood & 'Last Man Standing' Success
Actress Nancy Travis shares what she learned after being abruptly fired from a dramatic film role in "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" (1988) opposite Daniel Day Lewis. "I was flown into Paris to start rehearsals with Daniel Day Lewis and suddenly I'm told, 'Don't come to set today'... and then the producer and the first AD came to my dressing room and said, 'I'm sorry, you won't be doing the film anymore'... The director's excuse was, 'I think you are more suited to comedy,' and I remember being very offended at the time. Ironically, to this day I've had a great career in comedy," says Travis. "'Last Man Standing' which was canceled a year ago ... I thought, well this is not good because I'm an older actress in this business, I might be standing at the edge of this cliff, this might be it... Funnily enough, I've been working more than ever."
