Tuesday on "The Talk" host Elaine Welteroth weighs in on a Utah school that suffered backlash after allowing parents to opt-out of the Black History Month curriculum. "This is hard to even wrap my head around in 2021 why we're even having to defend why Black History Month should be taught in schools. I mean, the idea that parents are deliberately protesting Black history education in their schools is the definition of willful ignorance...You're choosing to stay blind at a time when so many people are waking up. And that is absolutely doing a disservice to themselves and their children, our future." Welteroth adds, "I think this notion that like Black history isn't important, they are thinking that Black history is a deviation from the norm, and that the norm is White, and the standard is White, that is White supremacy...it's just completely and utterly unacceptable. I'm glad they reversed it, but I can't even fathom why it was ever introduced to begin with or entertained by the education system in Utah or anywhere."
