He's originally from Texas.
While we know from The Big Bang Theory that Sheldon was raised in East Texas, Young Sheldon is the first time we get to see him in his original homegrown habitat.

He may not be at Medford High for long!
In the premiere episode of Young Sheldon, we find Sheldon on his first day of high school as a nine-year-old. But given how advanced he is (The Big Bang Theory had him starting college at age 11), who knows how soon it'll be before he hits the halls of higher learning?

He tried to build a nuclear reactor in the family tool shed.
In the Big Bang Theory episode "The Maternal Combustion," we learn from Sheldon's mom Mary (Laurie Metcalf on The Big Bang Theory, and Zoe Perry on Young Sheldon) that Sheldon once tried to buy yellow cake uranium from an African warlord to build a nuclear reactor. This isn't the first time Sheldon makes unsavory connections to get his hands on dangerous materials. In the Young Sheldon episode "Rockets, Communists, and the Dewey Decimal System," Sheldon calls up a mining operation in Canada trying to buy uranium... again.

He has a sister and a brother.
We've seen an older version of Sheldon's twin sister Missy (Courtney Henggeler on The Big Bang Theory and Raegan Revord on Young Sheldon), on The Big Bang Theory, but Young Sheldon is the first time we meet Sheldon's older brother, George Jr. (Montana Jordan), in person.

He's a huge fan of Professor Proton.
It's no secret that Sheldon loves Professor Proton (Bob Newhart), but his obsession with him dates all the way back to Season 1 of Young Sheldon. In the series premiere, we see Sheldon tuning in to watch his science idol.

He's partial to hot beverages.
In the Big Bang Theory episode "The Rhinitis Revelation," we learn via Mary that Sheldon was taught to offer friends a hot beverage when they're feeling down—in this case, Raj (Kunal Nayyar).

He needs more "Soft Kitty" in his life.
We haven't heard "Soft Kitty" yet on Young Sheldon, but we know from The Big Bang Theory that it's Mary's go-to song for when Sheldon is feeling under the weather.

Cobbler is his favorite.
Nobody cooks a family meal quite like Mary Cooper. And what's Sheldon's favorite dish? His mom's homemade peach cobbler!

He has a family nickname.
While his friends on The Big Bang Theory know him as just Sheldon, his family—Mary, specifically—affectionately calls him "Shelly." Hardly an episode of Young Sheldon goes by where we don't hear Mary call Sheldon by her favorite nickname.

He's obsessed with trains.
It's been long established that Sheldon is a lover of locomotives, and that's made apparent again in the very first scene of the first episode of Young Sheldon, as he explores dimensional kinematics with his train set.

He loves his Meemaw.
Sheldon's Meemaw (June Squibb on The Big Bang Theory and Annie Potts on Young Sheldon) once made an appearance on The Big Bang Theory, in the episode "The Meemaw Materialization," but now she's a regular around the Cooper household on Young Sheldon.
