Danielle Wins Veto Power, Doesn't Use It

After his eloquent speech during the nomination ritual, Marcellas says he "believed that speech in the moment," but also admits, "I'm beginning to play the game more. It's easier to do the things I rallied against. I'm becoming diabolical." Part of this personality change comes to light after Marcellas assures Tonya she's safe from eviction, but turns around and says, "I do not like Tonya, what she stands for, what she puts out there." He tells Gerry that Tonya can stay "if she toes the line."

Josh, his fears of being nominated realized, tells Tonya he won't campaign to stay in the House at her expense. Later, in the Diary Room, he adds, "I won't let this game pass me by." With Tonya and Josh, two members of the Group of Six, nominated, Roddy says that the idea of an alliance is "not relevant" because the group is split on whom they want to save. Josh hopes Roddy wins the Power of Veto, thinking Roddy will use it to save him, but Roddy and Chiara both agree they don't want the power and won't compete for it if they can help it. Eric, whom Marcellas considered for nomination along with Lisa, watches Josh making moves to stay in the House, which includes an appeal to Jason. Josh goes to the HoH room to talk to Marcellas, but finds Danielle in there with him, so he talks to both, invoking the prejudice that they have all faced in their lives. Afterwards, he says, "I did some good work in that room."

THE POWER OF THE VETO
Marcellas confesses he's a "germaphobe" and fights the desire to douse the other HouseGuests in 91% alcohol to sterilize them. Despite his phobia, he allows Tonya to use his clippers to shave Josh's chest, but later complains about the "beast fur in my clippers." With Josh's "germs and karma" on the clippers, Marcellas says he'll throw them out as soon as he gets home with $500,000 in his pocket.

The next step in deciding who leaves with the money is the Veto Competition, called "An Offer You Can't Refuse." The HouseGuests sit at the dining room table with 11 sealed boxes, one of which contains the Veto medallion, in front of them. The HouseGuests can make offers to each other in a swap for boxes: the more boxes they accumulate, the better chance at earning the power. Jason goes first, asking anyone to offer him something for his box. When Danielle offers six days of private abs class, Jason gives Danielle his box. Danielle offers Amy extra beer for her box, but Amy refuses. She also refuses Gerry's offer of all his cheese for the remainder of his time in the House. After the First Round ends, Jason, Roddy, Chiara and Lisa have all given up their boxes. At the start of Round Two, Marcellas offers his box to Josh if he will be nice to Gerry. Josh refuses, saying he'd feel like a "sellout" if he accepted that offer. This, Marcellas says, confirms his desire to see Josh evicted.
