WHO'S YOUR DADDY, EX OR FORMER BFF? PICK YOUR POISON
Host Julie Chen reveals there is a twist this season that includes three hidden HouseGuests sequestered upstairs. Julie tells the hidden HouseGuests that among the 11 HouseGuests downstairs, there are three people who they know. It may be an enemy, a rival, or someone they have unfinished business with, but they will be spending the summer with this person. As the hidden HouseGuests watch the television feed of their housemates downstairs, Dustin, a show salesman from Chicago, is the first to spot his ex-boyfriend, Joe. Dustin groans with uncomfortable laughter as he realizes Joe is wearing his shirt and Dustin is wearing Joe's. But his humor soon dissolves into anguish as he realizes the implications of spending an entire summer in the house together. Jessica, a college student, spies her former BFF Carol from junior high sitting on the couch. Apparently Carol still owes her $5 from high school and talked a lot of smack about Jessica back then. Dick is the last to spot his very personal connection: Danielle, his daughter. They haven't spoken for over two years.

The three console each other on their unpleasant reminders downstairs as Julie tells the remaining HouseGuests they are being watched by three hidden HouseGuests, but she doesn't reveal any more information. The HouseGuests are left to ponder what role the "hidden three" will have on the game. Julie then calls for the 11 to prepare themselves for the HoH competition.

YOU SPIN ME ROUND AND ROUND AND ROUND
The HouseGuests assemble in the backyard where they find oversized mushrooms and a backward running clock. The scene is reminiscent of an Alice in Wonderland set. The HouseGuests team up into pairs and get ready to play Mushroom Madness. Amber and Carol pair up, Jameka grabs Joe, Danielle bonds with Mike, Jen finds a teammate in Zach, while Eric makes a duo with Kail. Nick is left without a partner so he has to take a seat on the sidelines. Julie goes over the rules: one teammate will kneel on a spinning mechanical mushroom while the other answers questions on a stump nearby. Julie will ask a series of true or false questions about the housemates and every incorrect answer will make their team's mushroom spin faster. The team who stays on their mushroom longest will win the competition and one member of that team will become the first HoH. The mushrooms start spinning. The spinners include Carol, Joe, Mike, Zach and Kail.

The first wrong answer causes Carol's mushroom to spin faster. The next wrong answer has Carol spinning even faster. The questions and answers keep coming and the mushrooms get faster and faster, and mud starts to fly as Carol succumbs to the spinning and falls. Next to be eliminated is Zach and partner Jen. Exploding dust bombs shot at the spinners claim Mike's team and then Joe tumbles, taking out Jameka. Kail and her partner Eric are victorious. Eric's smile is almost a grimace since becoming HoH doesn't play into his strategy, but Kail seems genuinely excited. Julie announces that the three hidden HouseGuests are safe from eviction this week and then reveals the three get to pick which teammate out of Eric and Kail is given the HoH title. In a unanimous vote they choose Kail for her mushroom riding skills. Kail is crowned HoH.
