What world leader do you admire?
I don't admire any world leader, but I do support and agree with many.
How would you change the world?
I would like to bring more attention to things that are important in the world. I feel that so much money is spent on entertainment and luxuries, that our basic obligation to help others has become unimportant. Most kids in my school don't even know where Darfur is! Lastly, I would try to promote conflict resolution through non-violence.
How would you change your neighborhood?
I would keep it simple. Treat your neighbor as you would want your neighbor to treat you.
What have you learned about power?
I feel that power only multiplies people's values. If someone has good goals and motives, then power can be good. If someone is corrupt and unfair, then power can definitely be a bad thing.
Is power a good thing?
Like I said before, it depends on the person who has the power.
What makes a good leader?
In my opinion, a leader is someone who can balance two sides. Whether it is balancing republican and democrat, or the child and the adult, a good leader has to understand a problem from more than one point of view.
Who have been some of the best U.S. presidents,
and why?
Thomas Jefferson - He drafted the Declaration of Independence and he worked to bring religious freedom to the United States. Abraham Lincoln - He led the country through the civil war and helped to give freedom to the African-American slaves. Franklin D. Roosevelt - He lead the country through World War II and developed a strategy with Winston Churchill that helped us win the war.
Who have been some of the worst U.S. presidents,
and why?
I think that one of the worst U.S. presidents we have had is President George W. Bush. I feel that he went into Iraq with an incomplete assessment of what our goal was, and now we are stuck there. Although he has made some positive accomplishments, I do not agree with his conservative ideology.
When you become an adult, what do you think
will be the biggest problem facing our nation and/or world?
I think that Global Warming will affect me when I am an adult, but I also think that AIDS in third world countries will continue to be another large problem. I also believe that people's lack of care for the environment will lead to an unclean world.
If you had the power to change one or two
things about our country right now, what would it be?
When it comes to international conflict, I would make sure that all possible options are put into action before we resolve to violence. I would also let people make their own decisions about moral issues such as gay marriage or abortion.
If you could put into place one law that pertains
to kids in our country, what would it be?
I think that all laws pertaining to kids are fine.
Why are some people rich and others poor?
People are rich because they make money and they are smart with how they use it. People are poor because either they don't make enough money, or the have not been smart with how to use their money.
Do you believe global warming is a fact or
a myth? If you think it is a fact, what would you do about it
if you were in charge?
I believe that Global Warming is a fact, but I do understand that there are things that are not clear. For example, in Al Gore's movie, one of the main charts he uses does not include a huge temperature rise in the Middle Ages, that many scientists say has been overlooked. This discrepancy made the new temperature rise seem more drastic. With all the other data gathered I do believe that Global Warming is happening. I would make it a law that all cars have low gas emissions and have 30 mpg or higher to preserve our natural gas resources. I would also make fluorescent bulbs mandatory in all housings.
If you were in charge of immigration, would
everyone be allowed to enter the country? Would illegal immigrants
be allowed to stay?
I feel that anyone who wishes to enter the United States has the right to complete the requirements for citizenship and live in the country. The very foundation of this country was based on coming to a place of freedom that will accept anyone.
If you were in charge of education, would
art class be as important as math?
I feel that any class that requires a significant amount of thought should be just as important as a class such as math or science. Even research shows that music uses the same part of your brain as speaking and reading language. Kids who played music had a smaller ratio of dyslexia and other reading problems.
Do you belong to any organizations or clubs?
I am looking to find some new clubs in High School like the radio/TV station.
If you could switch places with one person,
who would it be and why?
I would love to switch places with Anthony Kiedis from Red Hot Chili Peppers. Even though I would love to be in front of all the fans and be with some of my favorite musicians, I would really do it so I can have people hear what I have to say. When you are in front of thousands of fans, people listen to what you say, and I would use that power to make the world a slightly better place.
