Legendary guitarist and musical innovator Steve Vai is a "Best Instrumental Rock Performance" Grammy nominee this year for "Lotus Feet," a track off his Real Illusions: Reflections album. A Berklee College of Music graduate, Vai was tapped to play guitar in Frank Zappa's band from 1980-82. Although he's played with several other bands, including David Lee Roth (1985-89), Whitesnake (1990) and VAI (1992-94), his biggest contribution to the music world has undoubtedly come during his solo career in which he's released 21 albums. When he's not making music, Vai runs the Make a Noise Foundation, which provides musical instruments and music education to young musicians who cannot afford them. He also serves as a trustee with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).
