KUNG FU FIGHTING
As the indecisive cousins changed their minds again about the Detour, the beauty queens arrived at Tonkin Street to find kung fu fighters perched upon the bamboo scaffolding. After putting on their gear and harness, Dustin & Kandice slowly began climbing the latticework as kung fu fights went on around them. In order to keep moving up the ladder, Dustin used a kick of her own to fend off would be attackers. When the duo finally reached the top, they received their next clue instructing them to take the Star Ferry across to Hong Kong Island and then travel four miles by taxi to an abandoned building, an old police headquarters.
Arriving at Tonkin Street after the beauty queens, Charla & Mirna tackled the bamboo scaffold with the same gusto seen throughout the race. Mirna joked, "One day kung fu fighting. One day fighting beauty queens." After delivering a few karate chops, Mirna reached the top along with Charla, who muscled her way up with no problems at all. Mirna later remarked, "Charla is here to prove on the race that she can break down what people's expectations are of her." Their cheers turned to worry, however, after their taxi driver took them over the bridge all the way to Hong Kong Island where they took a ferry back to Kowloon, the place they began the afternoon. Now having to take the ferry back to Hong Kong Island, the cousins worried that last-place Eric & Danielle, en route to the Detour, could catch up.
HIGH KICKING
At the abandoned police headquarters, Dustin & Kandice opened their clue to find a Roadblock. In it, one teammate had to kick down doors in the building until they find the room with their next clue. The dancer with the very long legs, "Kicking Kandice," went to work busting down doors until she came across the clue instructing her and Dustin to drive five miles to Victoria Park. Once there, they needed to find the model boat pond and Travelocity Roaming Gnomes on model junks. Then, in a local tradition practiced by Hong Kong children, they had to pull the junk across the pond to receive their next clue.
After spending their very last dollar to pay a highway toll, best friends Oswald & Danny arrived at the Hong Kong Jockey Club to claim first place. For their efforts, host Phil Keoghan awarded the best friends a trip to Hong Kong in Travelocity's biggest travel package this season on the race.
When the beauty queens arrived at Victoria Park, they slowly began leading the model junk across the smooth water of the pond, careful not to topple the Roaming Gnome into the water. After successfully pulling the junk over to them, they opened the clue directing them to the Pit Stop at the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
DOWN TO THE WIRE
As Dustin & Kandice claimed second place, the diminutive Charla began kicking down doors, explaining how her strong legs helped her in the task. While her mighty legs helped topple the doors, Charla couldn't find the clue in any of the rooms as Eric & Danielle easily climbed to the top of the scaffolding on the cousins' tail.
After Charla finally found the clue, the cousins maintained a slim lead over the dating couple, but they had difficulties finding Victoria Park in the crowded city. While Eric & Danielle made a race out of it, Charla & Mirna managed to hang on by pulling their gnome across the pond as the dating couple made a crucial wrong turn that cost them dearly.
Stepping on the mat in last place, dating couple Eric & Danielle expected to finally hear the bad news that had loomed over their heads for several legs. Instead, Phil informed the thrilled couple that this was a non-elimination leg so now they would be marked for elimination. Danielle commented, "This race is really important to me, and I want to show that I'm stronger than people think I am. Being marked for elimination right now is scary, but I want to make it to the top three, and I want to win." |
