The Final City
"Final flight, brother. Let's do it," Chris encouraged Alex, as all three Teams boarded the plane. On the flight, many of the competitors reflected on their chances of winning the race. "I think at this point of the whole race, it's just kind of in fate's hands," noted Blake. ( Paige feels that no matter what happens, they'll always look back fondly on the race) Alex worried about his and Chris' lack of knowledge about San Francisco. Wil, however, felt secure. "There's no one who's gonna be better in San Francisco than me. That's my city. If anybody's gonna do well in San Francisco, it's gonna be us."
The Teams arrived in Oakland and raced through the terminal. Each Team tried to work their way into a taxi as quickly as possible. Arguing with a stubborn airport valet, Tara & Wil were told they had to wait in a line down at the other end of the terminal. Meanwhile, Blake & Paige hopped into a taxi and took off in the lead. Chris & Alex got into the second taxi, leaving a frustrated Tara & Wil in last. "We just wasted about five or six minutes," Tara said as they finally got their ride.
Teams crossed the Bay Bridge with Blake guiding his driver to the next location. In a taxi somewhere behind them, Wil led his taxi driver to a shortcut, "I know my way around this city. I just cut off so much time." While Blake stopped momentarily to check if the route marker was at the Cable Car Museum, thinking this may have been the "landmark" they were supposed to find, it was Chris & Alex who were the first to arrive at the route marker at the Atkinson-Esher House, "landmark number 97." The Boston Buddies grabbed the envelope and ripped open the clue, which instructed them to abandon their cab and run through the streets of San Francisco to the Municipal Pier, one of the many piers in San Francisco. They ran off to find the pier. Behind them, Blake & Paige and Tara & Wil found the clue simultaneously. ( Teams sprint to the pier)
Racing on foot, Chris & Alex asked around for the Municipal Pier. Wil, however, knew exactly where the pier was and guided Tara directly towards it. Jogging while trying to simultaneously study a map of San Francisco, Blake breathlessly told Paige, "Everything you got. A million dollars."
