Kennedy's Talents
What world leader do you admire?
Tony Blair, because he didn't listen to popular opinion, sticking his neck out to stay beside America as an ally as we head into war. Though his choices were controversial in Great Britain, he never wavered and stayed loyal to his word.
How would you change the world?
To change the world, I would educate others about all religions – a huge source of conflict amongst ethnic groups, creating wars and misunderstanding. If we would live as neighbors on a world scale – not just a local scale, we would find peace.
How would you change your neighborhood?
Plant more trees, start a recycling campaign, encourage others to carpool or walk. Educate.
What have you learned about power?
Some people use their power in positive ways, while others use their power in negative ways.
Is power a good thing?
Yes, power is a good thing when one doesn't let it go his head and it's used for the right reasons, benefiting others – not themselves.
What makes a good leader?
An individualist who is never afraid to speak her mind. Courageous, she will often veer from the common opinion to do what is right.
Who have been some of the best U.S. presidents, and why?
Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy. Lincoln emancipated the slaves changing the course of American history, while Bill Clinton made America a better place to live, reviving a dead economy after 12 years of Republican detriment. Kennedy, in his brief time, sent America to space and allowed our youth to dream.
Who have been some of the worst U.S. presidents, and why?
Presidents George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and Andrew Johnson. Bush led our country into the Iraqi war and hasn't attempted to get us out, while Reagan took us into economic recession. Johnson was almost impeached in the Reconstruction years following the war.
When you become an adult, what do you think will be the biggest problem facing our nation and/or world?
Global warming.
If you had the power to change one or two things about our country right now, what would it be?
At this moment, I believe our best choice for America is to cleanup the White House. We are entrenched in a war for all history – unable to get out of a battlefield where American soldiers are dying uselessly each day while our economy is on the brink of disaster. So, let's make the right decisions at the polls this time. Plus, those new leaders must clean up our environment. Otherwise, our grandchildren may not enjoy our America.
If you could put into place one law that pertains to kids in our country, what would it be?
I would like to see a mandatory secondhand smoke law passed protecting children against lethal cigarette smoke. We are innocent victims of smoking, inhaling the toxins of our elders' poor decision-making. With that, I would rally for nationwide support of a law making it illegal to smoke in confined areas – such as automobiles or homes with kids present. Violators would face fines for first offenses and be charged with jail time for subsequent charges.
Why are some people rich and others poor?
In our country, poverty is a seemingly endless cycle in many communities. The rich are offered all the opportunities – better schools, life experiences, personalized instruction from teachers. Yet, the poor struggle just to get by, with many never even taking time to step up to help. The education system contributes to these issues. In a sense, schools are set-up for rich kids to succeed. Poor children often fall to the background. We must realize that children are left behind.
Do you believe global warming is a fact or a myth? If you think it is a fact, what would you do about it if you were in charge?
Global warming is a proven fact – our environment is endangered because of poor decisions made by previous generations and daily in America. As a future leader of the country, I would immediately stop the war in Iraq, utilizing the funds being wasted for this useless battle. Diverting the war dollars to research and technology, we could find a way to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles and pollution sources.
If you were in charge of immigration, would everyone be allowed to enter the country? Would illegal immigrants be allowed to stay?
Unfortunately, with the current terrorism dilemma America counters daily, it is impossible to open the doors to immigrants as in earlier years. Each day, our first responders are on the lookout for the next great disaster, so we must monitor our borders closely. That being said, most of the illegal immigrants who have arrived from Mexico and South American countries are legitimately hard workers who only wish to find a better life. It would be virtually impossible to seek out all of the illegals living in America and deport them. So, we must beef up security at the borders, protecting against dangers. At the same time, we must pray our new Americans will abide by our laws and appreciate their newfound opportunities in our great land.
If you were in charge of education, would art class be as important as math?
Yes, the same amount of time in the class day should be allotted for art as for core subjects like math. Art opens the mind and spirit. In so many school districts, the visual and performing arts fall to the back-burner in both funding and interest. Our school boards must realize kids need art and music classes right along with math and science.
