What world leader do you admire?
I admire Susan B. Anthony because she made it possible for women to vote! I also admire Madeline Albright and Queen Elizabeth, because they prove that women can do just as well as men as leaders.
How would you change the world?
Everyone wishes that the world was perfect of course, but my top two things are: 1.) Homelessness. It makes me feel horrible to see people on the streets looking like they just lost a fight with a rosebush. I would like to open up stores and create more homes for them so that they do not use donated money for drugs or alcohol. 2.) Global warming! My brother, my grandma and me all have asthma and the pollutants that make it hard for us to breathe are also the problem causing global warming. It breaks my heart to think about the polar bears living on ice burgs the size of ice cubes. Slowly but surely, even their little ice cube melts away, and they drown. I am currently working on a polar bear website.
How would you change your neighborhood?
I would change my neighborhood by telling everyone what they could do to stop global warming (and in turn, save those polar bears!). People in our neighborhood should know that even the small things they do will help make the air breathable and slow global warming (taking the bus, recycling, walking instead of driving, etc.). Even though those things by themselves are very small changes, they really do add up!
What have you learned about power?
I have learned that power cannot just go to one person. Everyone has to have enough personal power to stand up to a leader, to tell them if they disagree or to make a point. If everyone in Bonanza besides our four council leaders had had no power or opinion, we wouldn't have made good decisions. (Then again, we wouldn't have been at town hall meetings for hours!)
Is power a good thing?
Power is good if you have the right person for it, and if you have the right amount. Imagine if we could only breathe if someone had to permit every breath. Then again, imagine if the whole world had no leaders. Everyone would be arguing and doing crazy things all of the time.
What makes a good leader?
One important thing is that a good leader is not vain. Vain people only think about what they want and not about the people they are leading. At Bonanza, the good leaders showed respect to everyone, even those they didn't agree with or like.
Who have been some of the best U.S. presidents, and why?
First, George Washington, because he led us in the Revolutionary War and was our first President. And Abraham Lincoln, because he ended slavery and brought our country together.
When you become an adult, what do you think will be the biggest problem facing our nation and/or world?
The extinction of wildlife species, flooding, not enough food or fresh drinking water... all from global warming.
If you had the power to change one or two things about our country right now, what would it be?
Global Warming and Homelessness.
If you could put into place one law that pertains to kids in our country, what would it be?
I would make it legal for kids to vote, but just on certain issues. I wouldn't let kids vote on things they can't make good judgment on yet, like how much schooling or the driving age.
Why are some people rich and others poor?
Some people are hard workers but never get rich, while some people are just born rich and don't work very hard. It's not a fair system, but at least in our country, people have a chance to earn money, go to college and pursue a career they choose.
Do you believe global warming is a fact or a myth? If you think it is a fact, what would you do about it if you were in charge?
FACT!!! If I were in charge, I would do things like requiring all cars to be hybrids - like my parents drive, or banning plastic water bottles because they require millions of gallons of oil to manufacture.
If you were in charge of immigration, would everyone be allowed to enter the country? Would illegal immigrants be allowed to stay?
The world is complicated. My solution would be to have the United States help the poor countries build up their own economy. That way, immigration would really only be needed for the people who are persecuted in their countries.
If you were in charge of education, would art class be as important as math?
Art class would definitely be as important. It helps develop creative skills that later on can be used to see the world a different way or to solve problems. Besides... art class is SO much more fun than math! (PS - If my teacher is reading this... just kidding!).
Do you belong to any organizations or clubs?
I do the father-daughter thing... we call it the YMCA Y-Guides. I also do the kick-the-ball thing... playing soccer in the Issaquah Soccer Club.
If you could switch places with one person, who would it be and why?
I'd switch places with Anna Sophia Robb because she looks like she's had a lot of fun in the movies she has made and because she isn't like other actresses; she doesn't dye her hair and doesn't dress like, you know... !
