Stockard Channing has received two Emmy Awards out of nine nominations, an Academy Award nomination, two SAG Awards out of nine nominations, and a Tony Award. She earned her Academy Award nomination and one of her Golden Globe nominations when she reprised her Tony-nominated performance in the film version of "Six Degrees of Separation." She received a SAG Award nomination for the film "Smoke" and won a People's Choice Award for her role in "Grease." Her additional film credits include "Life or Something Like It," "Isn't She Great," "Practical Magic," "Twilight," "The First Wives Club," "Moll Flanders," "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar," "Married to It," "Meet the Applegates," "Staying Together," "Destiny," "Heartburn," "The Men's Club," "The Business of Strangers," "Le Divorce" and "Anything Else." Most recently, Channing was seen in the romantic comedy "Must Love Dogs."
She received both an Emmy Award and a SAG Award for "The Matthew Shepard Story" and won an Emmy for "The West Wing." Her other Emmy nominations are for "The Perfect Witness," "The Baby Dance," "Road to Avonlea" and "An Unexpected Family." She also won a 2005 Daytime Emmy Award for her role in the television movie "Jack."
Channing was nominated for Tony Awards for "House of Blue Leaves" and "The Lion in Winter" and won a Tony Award for her work in "Joe Egg." She also appeared on Broadway in "Four Baboons Adoring the Sun," "The Little Foxes," "Hapgood," "Woman in Mind," "The Rink," "The Golden Age," "They're Playing Our Song" and the original production of "Love Letters."
Channing was born in New York. She attended Radcliff College and graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and literature. She divides her time between New York and Los Angeles. Her birth date is February 13.
