KB (Kevin Boykin) & Rebecca Valadez
KB performed first in the Adult Singer category tonight, singing "You Make Me Wanna." When he had finished, Countess Vaughn James gave him 3 stars without further comment. Naomi Judd also gave KB 3 stars, but added some advice: "I'd suggest that you work on your pitch; sing more from your diaphragm than up in your nasal cavity. You were a shade off the rhythm, too." "I didn't think he was really keeping tune to the song," added Ben Stein, also giving KB 3 stars. "I'm sensing a theme," noted Carol Leifer, "Smooth, but 3 stars too."
Rebecca Valadez, the second performer in the Adult Singer category, sang "Sweet Thing." Picking up on the song title, an impressed Countess Vaughn James replied, "5 stars, sweet thing, 5 stars!" Commenting on Rebecca's uniqueness, Naomi Judd told her, "I would like to slap whoever came up with that 'one size fits all' label," and gave her 5 stars. "You are a giant star," added Ben Stein, giving Rebecca 4 stars. Advising Rebecca to "have a dozen Krispy Kremes" to celebrate after the show, Carol Leifer gave her 5 stars.
The judges favored Rebecca over KB, and the home audience upheld their decision. With 38 stars, Rebecca Valadez won the Adult Singer category by a wide margin and will return for the Semi-Finals next Thursday. |
