Owen Smith & John Roy
First up in the Comedy category tonight was Owen Smith, who joked about male/female relationships. Carol Leifer gave him 4 stars, adding, "Really funny, animated, really original, great presence, great material, delivery." "You had me crackin' over here," agreed Countess Vaughn James, giving Owen 5 stars. Ben Stein gave him "5 stars and an A in psychology," adding, "Hilarious, and showed some of the best insights into male/female behavior I've ever seen." Naomi Judd gave Owen 4 stars and this simple compliment: "You tickled my fancy!"
John Roy, the second performer in tonight's Comedy category, did a routine focused on race. "You're so unique; you're just great," Carol Leifer told him, giving him 4 stars. Calling him "funny, funny, funny," Countess Vaughn James also gave John 4 stars. "You're a lot funnier than you look," remarked Naomi Judd, giving John 4 stars. Ben Stein gave out his second grade of the evening along with 5 stars: "Incredibly insightful. A in jurisprudence and criminal law."
The judges favored Owen over John by a narrow 1 star, but the home audience reversed that decision by a wider margin. John Roy won the Comedy category with 35 stars and will come back next Thursday to compete in the Semi-Finals. |
