Role Models: Clark receives a call alerting him to a police officer named Tim Novak who was shot and killed while driving a hip-hop mogul he was doing security for. Novak previously worked with Owen and Arroyo in their former precinct and had a close relationship with Commissioner Dowdell and Lieutenant Vince Madrid. Ballistics confirm a match to an earlier case involving a meth dealer named Portis Walker who Novak collared twice and head to his apartment to investigate further. Arroyo saves Clark’s life when he shoots Walker right as he had a gun aimed at Clark. They interrogate Walker and he claims the gun found in his car had been stolen two weeks prior, infuriating the other officers in the process by asserting that Novak was a dirty cop. Madrid tells Clark that Owen was cowardly from his experience working with him, but Owen tells his side of the story to Clark, explaining that he was transferred out of Madrid’s precinct once he had uncovered evidence that the crime rate was being underreported. Owen finds a secret compartment in Walker’s car with his gun in it which suggests that the wiped gun they found on the seat was planted there. Someone is trying to frame Walker for a crime he didn’t commit. Clark subpoenas Novak’s bank statements to discover he moved large amounts of money and paid for expensive items in cash. They question his wife and she confesses that Novak and Madrid had argued over money. Clark and Owen get Walker to disclose that Novak was ripping off dealers and giving him their drugs to sell. When Madrid’s gum is found at the crime scene, Arroyo is tortured over the mounting evidence that his former mentor Madrid could have killed Novak when the latter wanted out of their drug operation. Arroyo gets Madrid to admit to killing Novak while wearing a wire and uses the confession to arrest him. Clark makes a deal with Commissioner Dowdell to not sully Novak’s name in exchange for Owen to be promoted the following year. Agnes communicates to Clark her desire to reconnect with their estranged parents and McKenzie is shocked to learn that Clark is aware of her relationship with Arroyo. ...
