After landing in the bottom group for the last several weeks, Renda's time finally ran out as he ended up with the lowest total of America's votes. That left four Suitors--Evan, Hank, Robert and Dominic--to soldier on in the quest for the highly coveted hand of Lisa Shannon.
Host Brian McFayden began with the reminder that tonight's show would offer viewers their last opportunity to help find the perfect mate for Lisa Shannon. The voting will shut down after tonight, meaning whoever ends up with the highest number of votes just might marry Lisa next week in front of a live studio audience and millions of viewers at home. After she was introduced, Lisa said she thought America had done a good job so far on eliminating the wrong guys. If Lisa was growing more anxious as the final days of CUPID approach, so were the remaining guys, as this week's peek into the bachelor house attested.
HOUSE REALITY: A PURE NUMBERS GAME
This week's "House Reality" segment began with a toga party in honor of the recently departed Joe Nardulli. Evan got the party started by offering a toast in his inimitable manner: "Some people say they can handle only 15 minutes of Joe; I can handle a lifetime of Joe." He and Hank then went head-to-head in a ping-pong match, which Hank won in convincing fashion. According to Renda, Hank was planning on emerging triumphant at a lot more than ping-pong: "He's convinced he's going to win. So anytime he interacts with the rest of us, he's gotta be a little bit fake." Although he did appear confident, Hank admitted noticing a "strong connection" between Lisa and Evan.
The focus then shifted to Robert, whom Dominic called "delusional" for believing he had a chance with Lisa. But Robert remained convinced that he could make Lisa love him. Dominic also bemoaned the fact that there were only five guys left in the house, complaining, "It's not that much fun anymore." As Hank said, the dwindling pool of Suitors amounted to "a pure numbers game." He continued that for him, the scariest thing wasn't the possibility of getting rejected; it was the prospect of actually winning, and then having to face what he called "a MAJOR decision."
( Goodbye to Renda )
SIX DOWN, FOUR TO GO, AND ONLY ONE MORE SHOW!
Once again, it was time for the moment of truth. This week, Brian asked only the last two guys who received the lowest amount of votes to step forward. And this week, that turned out to mean Dominic and Renda. Laura and Kimberly then checked in with their thoughts, each agreeing that the two guys on the firing line no longer belonged on the show.
After an agonizing wait (agonizing for Renda and Dominic, at least), Brian brought the suspense to an end by announcing that the guy who received the lowest number of votes was Renda. That meant it was time for Dominic to sit back down, and for Renda to say his goodbyes. Accepting his fate with a smile, Renda told Lisa, "I don't regret any of this. Every date with you has been good. You make me feel good." Lisa responded by telling Renda to come give her a hug before he was dismissed from the stage.
For the four remaining guys, this week's dates offered them the chance to enter the "realm of fantasy" with Lisa. That meant no rules and no tricks, just an opportunity to take Lisa on any kind of dream date they could imagine. For 24 straight hours!
EVAN'S DATE: THE BEST/WORST DATE EVER
Up first this week was Evan, the girls volleyball coach, who took Lisa to sunny Santa Barbara on their fantasy date. In Lisa's words, "it's come down to Hank and Evan," going on record with her top two candidates for marriage. She said was hoping to suss out Evan's true feelings for her by the end of this all-important date. When she confronted Evan, he confessed that opening up wasn't easy for him: "I keep everything inside. I put walls up." But he then promised he would "try to be less hard to read." After the pair took a quick dip in the very cold ocean, Evan proposed sharing a shower with Lisa, but with their suits still on. Lisa was game and, with the studio audience hooting its appreciation, they took a "platonic shower" and were able to successfully rinse off all the sand from the beach. Next up was a whale-watching boat ride that left Lisa feeling a lot the worse for wear, and Evan feeling bad about this queasy twist of fate. Spirits quickly improved back on land, however, and by the end of the date, Evan seemed convinced that Lisa was "the kind of girl I could be with forever."
Laura began her critique with a positive comment: "I have chemistry towards you. I think a lot of women in the audience probably have chemistry with you." But she expressed skepticism about Evan's ability to provide for a family as a volleyball coach, wondering, "I just want to know how you plan on supporting the family?" Kimberly admitted she'd been going back and forth in her feelings for Evan since the beginning of the show. About his dream date, she told Evan, "This is marriage we're talking about, not a day at the beach."
In his response, Evan tried to answer Laura's and Kimberly's concerns. He then told Lisa, "I would love to spend more time with you." Lisa again thanked Evan for making the best of a bad situation, in this case her throwing up for five hours on the boat. But she also said she could tell he was terrified that he might actually win the CUPID vote. Lisa's bottom line on Evan: "I don't think you're ready for forever to start next week."
