Tara's Final Words

Raised primarily in Nova Scotia, Tara began as an opera singer having studied classical voice singe age 12 and pursued a degree in music when she was 18 years old. After one year of college, she moved to Montreal to attend the theater program at Concordia University. At age 22, she moved to Toronto to pursue an acting career and start a band.

In 1996, Tara answered an ad in the newspaper and became the lead singer of Joydrop. Eight months later, they signed with Tommy Boy Records. Joydrop released two albums and had a hit, "Beautiful," on the modern rock charts and was nominated for a Juno Award (the Canadian equivalent to a Grammy). Rocker Tommy Lee appeared opposite her in the video for the band's single, "Sometimes Wanna Die," which was a hit in Canada.

Tara also works as an actor, having appeared in the television shows "La Femme Nikita" (where she had a recurring role) and "Noise."

Although Joydrop has since broken up, Tara is currently working on her solo album with producer Jordon Zadorozny, who has written with Hole. She has also worked with acclaimed producer Ron St. Germain (Creed, Tool and Soundgarden).

Tara's favorite bands are The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, and she most admires David Bowie. She also loves Robert Plant, Bon Scott and Tom Petty. Her favorite CDs are The Beatles' Abbey Road and Tom Petty's Wildflowers. Tara is most often compared to Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders. She plays a little guitar and enjoys watching hockey (when it is on) and spending time by the ocean. She was raised in the Shambhala Buddhist Community and is currently the Health and Wellbeing Coordinator at her meditation center.

Tara's birth date is September 7, 1973.
