Tensions mount at Dulles airport as the teams fly to Charleston, South Carolina where they work on shrimp and drive a ‘Mud Run.’ The teams then travel to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and ride a centrifuge.

The race moves on to the Talladega Motor Speedway to complete a lap around the track in a party bike. In Mississippi, their challenges include sawing logs and playing cards in a riverboat before ending up in New Orleans and the French Quarter.

The race begins in a beach in Quepos and a church in Grecia. The Detour is a choice between painting cart wheels or loading and transporting sugarcane. In Phoenix, Arizona, the teams must race go karts. The teams have to complete a 360-degree loop in a fighter plane in Mesa, Arizona. A clue in the Grand Canyon leads them to the Horseshoe Bend where the teams collect cards using a compass or bail water from a submerged boat.

A clue in Monument Valley, Utah, has the teams taking a helicopter to Elephant Butte. The Detour is a choice between riding bikes down the mountain or rappelling down. Bart, a bear, leads the teams to Olympic Park where teams ski down a training ramp into a pool.

The teams inflate and ride hot air balloons for their next clue. In the Heber Valley Railway, the Detour is a choice between completing a section of railroad track or filling a steam locomotive with coal. Lastly, the teams go to Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park.

The Detour is an Old West theme; either attach wheels to a covered wagon or build a traditional teepee. In Cody, Wyoming, the teams are led to the Irma Hotel where teams have to dress in period clothing. The Roadblock involves searching for golf balls in a golf cart.

The last three teams travel to Montreal where the teams search a maze in the Underground City. The Detour is a choice between curling on ice or roll logs along a course. After performing stunts on a trapeze, the teams drive a golf cart into Parc Olympique stadium and search the seats for plane tickets. Then teams travel to Toronto and ascend the CN Tower to find their next clue. The Detour is a choice of climbing a schooner or searching for a woman who can fit in a particular shoe. In the final Roadblock, the teams assemble a giant jigsaw puzzle of Central and North America.
