Biography

Melissa Claire Egan returned to The Young and the Restless as Chelsea Lawson Newman in June 2019. She originally joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in November 2011 and played the role until February 2018.

She recently filmed a starring role in the Hallmark movie,Holiday for Heroes scheduled to air in November 2019.

Originally from Bedford, NY, Melissa grew up with an extensive background in musical theatre, singing, and dancing, taking a multitude of classes in New York City as a child. While still a child, she began booking national television commercials and was signed by the Ford Modeling Agency.

Melissa graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Dramatic Arts. During college she appeared in many plays including Marvin's Room, How I Learned to Drive, The Birthday Party, and Pippin. She also studied Shakespeare at the British American Drama Academy at Oxford, England.

Upon graduating college, Melissa began acting professionally. She played the role of Annie McDermott on All My Children from June 2006, through February 2011.

Her television credits include Bones, Men at Work, Criminal Minds, One Tree Hill, and Dawson's Creek. She also starred in the independent films Wrestling and The Marriage Counselor and was in a 2006 Super Bowl commercial for Taco Bell.

Melissa was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the Best Supporting Actress category in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.

For several years, she served as a celebrity spokesperson for the skin care product Proactiv Solution.

Her hobbies include seeing plays and musicals, dancing, choreography, writing, playing tennis, swimming, yoga, going to sporting events, road trips, happy hour with friends, and hanging out with her husband, dog, and family. She also sings in a band called Canal Street.

Melissa works with various charities. One in particular that she is passionate about is Dharma Rescue, which rescues dogs with disabilities, raises money to get them personalized wheelchairs, and gives them purpose by rehabilitating and training them to be therapy dogs (www.dharmarescue.org).

In July 2014, Melissa married Matt Katrosar, a Pluto TV/Viacom executive, in Santa Barbara, CA.
